November 2021 Agenda

Future Meetings

Blue Springs Brewing & Riverwalk Pizzeria has a room that they use for private parties that we could use it free of charge starting in December.

-----------------------------

Fundraising:

Bingo

We are going to be changing the start time for BINGO to 6:30. The restaurant feels we will have a bigger turnout, and that gives the volunteers time to eat if they are coming straight from work.

Bricks

Sally taking the lead – ready to launch?

--------------------------------------------

Events:

  • Christmas Parade: Suggestion for Christmas Movie (theme for parade) is ‘The Grinch’. Think it would be cute to dress the manatee as the Grinch with the big heart!
    • Sub Committees
      • The trailer - Jackie, Trinket and Sally if ahead of time
    • Where will it be? When can we begin decorating?
      • Parade – Laura has 1 or 2 people to help
    • Manatee Festival: Trinket will take lead and gather a co-lead
      • Sub Committees:
        • BSSP Booth: Jackie and Sally
        • Food: Laura –will get with Blue Springs Pizzeria and Brewery etc
        • Mermaids: Laura
        • Bucket Brigades: Karen
        • Face Painter: up for voting on if we want to do this
      • Fireflies: Trinket and Sally, ‘all hands on deck’
      • Monthly Booth: Jackie will take the lead

Other possible events being discussed for the future

-Thursby House Soiree

-Golf Tournament: Save the Manatee Club did this last year but if they don’t do it this year, maybe it is something that we can do.

  • Trinket will look into this if we all agree, Time frame between April and September?

-We also discussed if the Save the Manatee Club were attending boat shows, would it be worth our time to join them.  We have a lot of boaters on the St Johns River. We could help the Club educate while possibly getting funds for the ramp and/or new members. Laura mentioned that they are tracking the demographics of visitors and they have a lot from Jacksonville, as well as Orlando and Daytona Beach/New Smyrna.

Newsletter

Website updates – Shopify

-----------------------------------

Connor – Park Updates:

  1. Wildflower Garden: Lindley's Nursey is willing to professionally design the native wildflower garden in front of the ranger station.  I am just waiting for someone to come identify the electric wires from the RS to the entrance/exit gate.
  2. Manatee Season is November 15th.  I am having a Manatee Interpreter Volunteer Orientation on November 10th at 6pm at the Roadside Pavilion (bugs or not).  Going to explain to new volunteers how the roving and presentations work.  Many of them are previous Manatee Observers as well.  Having a CSO member or two there would probably help; many of the new volunteers are locals and very excited to help the park.
  3. I’m now on the FB page, and would like to collaborate with whoever runs the CSO page.

Action items:

  1. Discussing the # of volunteer hours to become CSO members for free, and if there is a way to make sure those volunteers actually get involved with the CSO
  2. Regularly scheduled Pop-up tent at BSSP during Manatee Season
  3. Life-size manatee inflatable? (Yes or No)

Suggestions:

Getting involved with the West Volusia Chamber of Commerce?  Laura Sherman with Blue Spring Adventure would probably be the best person to address this with.  The CSO may be able to help run community events and receive donations or something.
